Bougainvillea

I grew up with and learned to love bougainvilleas in San Diego. They are absolutely gorgeous!

We've tried growing them here in the Central Valley, but I think it's too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. They definitely like a more consistent, temperate climate.

There are massive bougainvillea plants all over the city, but this particular one is right down the road from our condo. Many of the pedestrian overpasses look like floral arbors because they are so heavy laden with bougainvillea. I tried to get a good picture of one, but they are all on major roads, which makes it hard to get a good angle.

Ya, I'm with Judi on this in SD...my aunt Virgina just loved them...everytime she came to visit we went to a place on coast that had lots of different kinds.......
